Less sweetness enables a sourish note to come out. Chalky, and the flavor reminds me of when I used to eat the occasional dollop of paste as a child. I liked it then, and don’t hate it now.

Everything is a miss here, from the overly emulsified texture to the noticeably unnatural sweetness that makes your mouth water (not in a good way). I’ve had worse, only because I’ve tried about 260 others to this point.

Flavorful with noticeable cocoa and malt flavors and plenty of salt to maintain a satisfying aftertaste. Also a fleeting caramel-like note early on in the sip.

A relatively flat, uninspired cocoa taste that is reminiscent of many private label gallon jugs. Decidedly average and forgettable.

Valiant effort for a ‘no sugar added’ version. Artificial sweetness is not overdone, cream is good, cocoa is a bit hard to find— but overall still enjoyable.

Nicely creamy, but little else in the flavor department that stands out. It doesn’t try to do too much, and has an enjoyable simplicity that makes drinking both pleasurable and effortless.

Cocoa flavor that tastes very ‘accurate’— tastes like how cocoa should. All other flavors work well to make cocoa the star of the show.
TruMoo Chocolate 1% Lowfat Milk (UHT)
Has a watered-down, yet ‘cooked’ milk taste that might be ok on its own but doesn’t fare well side-by-side with others.
Harris Teeter Ultra-Pasteurized Chocolate Lowfat Milk
Salty, less sweet and as malty as chocolaty. It’s pleasant upon first sip, but has a lingering aftertaste that is strong and urges you to take another sip to get rid of it.
Harris Teeter Traders Truly Chocolate Milk
Tons of flavor brought through by a heavy dose of cream. May be too salty for some, but it works for me in conjunction with the malty cocoa flavor. There is a guilt factor, but it’s worth it in this case.

Powdery/chalky cocoa taste, but the taste is executed quite well. Good balance of cocoa with sweetness and salt.

Morning Fresh Farms 1% Lowfat Chocolate Milk
Fairly well proportioned, nothing stands out in particular but it works well enough together.
Promised Land Dairy Midnight Chocolate 2% Milk
Candy-like sweetness and a powdery cocoa flavor contribute to an overall sense of inauthenticity. Flavor is strong and some may enjoy it, but it comes off as fugazi to me.
Marva Maid Extra Rich Chocolate Milk
Mature-feeling taste. Very indulgent, but more with creaminess and chocolate flavor than by sugar. Lives up to (and beyond) the ‘Extra Rich’ billing, which remarkably few can pull off. Exceedingly delicious, do what you must to get your hands on this.
Yoohoo Chocolate Drink (glass)
Probably should be out of scope, as it’s not really milk, it is a widely known drink in America. Thin, silky smooth, watery, sweet; still not a viable replacement for relatively average chocolate milk.
