WinCo Foods Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk

A relatively girthy and earthy reduced fat (2%) chocolate milk, that is appropriately sweet, decently well-balanced, and bit astringent on the back end. The result is a satisfying, rather beefy drink that leans slightly into 'chalky' territory but not to an obnoxious extent.

Lochmead Farms Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk

Substantial texture and prominent cocoa flavor that leans towards the earthy side. The first part of the sip is the best, as there's a noticeable astringency a few seconds after the swallow that dries out the mouth a little and lends to a chalkier feel that wasn't present up front.

Horizon Organic 2% Chocolate Milk

A modest (but noticeable) step above Horizon's traditional 1% chocolate milk, this build seems to have a bit more cocoa behind it, and the extra dairy fat is appreciated. It won't turn heads or start any new religions, but it's a welcome addition to the limited but long-standing chocolate milk portfolio from Horizon.

Henry Farms of Knox White Chocolate Milk

Refreshingly undersweet and profiles more like a vanilla milk than anything else. It's very enjoyable, and doubtless the best white chocolate milk I've ever had. I love the smooth, unencumbered viscosity that does its job well with minimal baggage save for a slight astringency on the back end. All in all, a fun way to spend a few minutes and a few hundred cals.

HEB Mootopia Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk

Strong and quick pop of upfront sweetness that settles down with a cocoa dusting in the latter third of each sip. A strong saltiness both distracts from the chocolate flavor and likely obfuscates any would-be twang from the non-sugar sweeteners. In short, it's unique, and has a punchy flavor-- just not in the exact locations and proportions that you'd get in a top-tier chocolate milk.

Upstate Farms Intense Mint Chip Milk

So yeah, the 'chip' part of 'mint chip milk' makes this in-scope for my purposes, and this may not be surprising by looking at its electric green color, there's not really any chocolate quality to be found on the palate. Instead, you're treated to a sweet, cooling, menthol-esque freshness that is unique and pleasantly pepperminty. It lives up to its 'intense' label, and while a noteworthy novelty, it's not something that I would factor into my ideal flavored milk rotation.

Weigel's Candy Bar Milk

I've never had a 'candy bar' that tasted anything close to this-- it's powerfully sweet and hazelnutty-- a combination that wouldn't be out of place in eastern Europe, but is certainly unique here in the states. It's a bit jarring up front, as it probably won't taste like you expect, but with each sip it gets a bit more palatable and ends up being easy to finish the whole ~500 calorie pint in under 2 minutes.

a2 Milk Hershey's Reduced Fat Chocolate Milk

Pleasant sweetness up front, followed by an average-to-mild cocoa flavor and minimal back-end baggage. It finishes clean, but I'm left unsatisfied by the incongruence between the prominent Hershey's co-branding and the lackluster chocolate presence in the look and more importantly, the flavor.

Shamrock Farms Lowfat Chocolate Milk

Pretty decent salty-malty cocoa flavor with a deceptively creamy hit in the latter half of the sip. There's a bit of a cooked milk twinge which manifests as a caramel-like flavor, likely from the high-temp pasteurization that caramelizes some of the milk sugars. All in all-- a pretty decent 1%.

TruMoo Moo & Improoved Chocolate Milk

Seemingly blander than its former self-- the claim 'Moo & Improoved" rings nearly as hollow as the drinking experience. It's whole milk, so it has that going for it, but flavorwise, there's simply not a lot going on. Perhaps it's trying to be 'subtle' and I appreciate that it profiles slightly less sweet than before-- it's sure not to offend anyone, except for those looking for a fulfilling, indulgent experience.

Snowville Creamery Low Fat A2 Chocolate Milk

Intriguing combination of thin, undersweet, and strongly chocolaty, in a mature sense. It drinks easily, and is very enjoyable despite the obvious lack of a cream presence. It isn't watery, but feels that way physically, but ultimately does more with less-- I'm happy to make my way through a half gallon of this on most days.

High's of Baltimore Chocolate Milk

Quickly sweet and flavorful, but hampered by a sticky, syrupy back-of-the-throat twang and finish. It's still whole milk, but a residue seems to collect in the mouth after a few sips, distracting from what could or should be a creamy and/or chocolaty exit.

Nestle Nesquik Whole Chocolate Milk

Certainly thicker, creamier, and more cocoa-focused than its standard lofwat cousin, but the texture feels a bit over-emulsified and there's a sweetness that lingers slightly past its curfew. It's a marked improvement and easily the best of the Nesquik lineup, but falls short of most other mass-produced whole chocolate milks in its peer group.

The Creamery Chocolate Milk

Sweet, cooked milk flavor that leans 'caramel-like' and is accentuated by a salty pop toward the back end which helps to mitigate the sugary rush. The box does a disservice to its beautiful light brown color (at least the straw is clear); in short, it's rather adept for a shelf-stable, reduced fat chocolate milk.
